Business in question :: Registerfly

Complaint:: i received an email today from registerfly.com saying i had 2 domain names about to expire this month.

how is this a scam?

first of all, the 2 names are for .info which i have NEVER registered.

second, i renewed all of my domain names for the rest of the year back in july 2005,
which means i wouldn’t have to renew any others until jan. 2006.

they added these 2 domain names just this week because i double checked sept 1 to make sure all the names for the rest of the year were paid off.

now i will have to watch these bastards like a hawk. i plan to move my decent domain names to my other registra and slowly let the ones i no longer want expire.

if you have an account with registerfly.com, you should take a quick look see for domain names you never ordered. i’m not buying anything from them again.

Business in question :: Register Fly

Complaint:: FUCK FUCK FUCK

They got me too, 2 domains, I had JUST Renewed, 2 days prior, then I get another notice, and because I did the last transfer a new way, I figured it was a goof and just went ahead and renewed, I’m gonna call them fucks right now and see what they have to say about this shit!

Level of upset :: 4

Business in question :: Registerfly.com

Complaint:: They did the same crap to me all year, finally I got fed up and switched. They said there was a security issue with my account and it was locked out. The only way to contact them was throught emailing thier risk department. And no one would give me the time of day on the phone. For like a month! I only have like 5 domains all bought recently. So far my main one has been disconected 3 fucking times in the last 6 months for failure to renew, and there was absolutely no way it had been even close to a year!
Register Fly GFY!
I realise I’m new to the net but Im not new! That’s bad friggin Buisness.
When I call for customer service I do not expect to be treated like I’m bothering them!
On a side note so far Go Daddy has been good to me!

Business in question :: domain transfers

Complaint :: I have sent 10 e mails requesting that they comply with the regulations,they have no idea of the procedeure for transfering domain names, I was sucked in by the cheap price, but one only gets wat one pays for, so it is my problem, but beware do not use registerfly , if you want sane domain registrations.

Business in question :: mcorp.biz

Complaint :: I have several domains registered with registerfly.com, after an upgrade of there web site all the whois information for my domains was changed to there own information and the facilitty to change the whois information back to my own correct information does not work. So when I try to transfer a domain to another registra I am not contacted to approve the transfer. Also when I pay to renew a domain the domain is not renewed but instead set up as one of there own parking pages so as to gain income off my domain. For some reason to renew a domain with them you have to reply to an email sent to the contact email address shown in the whois to approve it. It is not possible to approve when they have changed my whois information to theres and it can not be changed back to the correct information. I now want to transfer all my domains to another registra as this seems like a scam to me.

BUT – if you want to really get loaded up with adware and half a dozen little data miners- just go to mail.com and open a ‘free’ account. OK if you have Ad-aware, free version, which wipes all this crap off your computer.

Business in question :: ipowerweb

Complaint :: I started using ipower a couple of years ago and the service wasn’t to bad. For 7.95 a month they hosted our family web site. I decided to create some business accounts(I design websites) to offer more services to my clients. This got rather pricey at 8bucks a month and created a VPS server which they suggested as a better value. Basically it is just a reseller account and that would work. I moved one client over to the vps(astra-tr.com) and then I was unable to create any new domains, I would get a bunch of errors and no one in tech support could help. It turns out that there is only one guy in charge of vps tech support, and you can only reach him via email?? Keep in mind I’m pretty pissed by this point because they say have 24/7 tech support. To them this means as long as someone actually answers the phone. I use american express so I ended up getting a full refund(almost 3months after I started the vps). I also have a few friends that also have horror stories. I continued to register a couple of domains with them, but you don’t recieve a conforation number or any reciept to print. I’s like some guy recieves these request via email and keys them in when he get around to it. I would strongly advise anyone to steer cleer of these guys!! Oh and they just moved from cali to arizona where I live. My friend Chad only recieved a forth of his money for a refund, so were thinking about paying them a visit.

Level of upset :: 4

Business in question :: IPowerWeb

Complaint :: Even though I asked IPowerWeb multiple times, both on the phone and in writing, to remove accounts from auto-newal, they still charge my credit cards. In one case, they charged my card (I called into make a $10 change for a client) when my clients expired, but they never informed me that they were attaching my card to the client account. Another time, they threw an used checking account into a negative balance and it took 16 business days (despite the promise of a full refund within 15 business days) and a bunch of threatening and a dispute filed with the bank just to get a partial refund. The overdraft fee was $38 and I am still getting charged $33 per day since they didnt refund the whole amount. I am taking them to small claims court and just got off the phone with the police department. They play cicles with the email and phone support. It can take well over an hour to reach someone, only to have them tell you that they cant help you – and then they transfer you to someone else. Do not use this company.

Level of upset :: 2

Business in question :: iPower web

Complaint :: I hosted with iPowerweb. Their technical people are useless, do not know even the basic things. Their Email support is worst, not even single mails by reply. I applied for Moneyback and no reply to that too. Very frustrated with ipowerweb.com

Level of upset :: 4

Business in question :: Ipowerweb

Complaint :: Ipowerweb sucks so bad it is amazing about how bad they suck. Those people must TRY to suck that bad in order to suck that bad.

I ordered a domain (only 1 domain and no hosting) and wait for the account to be setup. I get an account setup email but the domain is not registered. I have to email support and tell them to register the domain.

They register the domain but the username/pass they gave me from the first email they sent does not work.

I contact support. They apologize and tell me they are sending an email with it in it. I never get the email. I email them back. They apologize again and state they will send it this time. (I guess they were joking the first time).

I dont get it the second time.

I then send 3 emails asking for a refund or for someone to check the account.

I then get an email stating for security they cannot send the username and password to another email address. (Well, that is fine and all but that is not what I requested from them. I just wanted the user/pass to be sent to the email on file)

They then tell me that this is more a billing issue then a tech issue and so they send me to billing.

Since when does the billing department send out user names and passwords? At this point I figure out that billing has nothing to do with their time anymore because the tech support is scaring away all of the customers.

As it turns out the billing team is more technicial then the support team because that is the only place you can get any help.

>From now on if you need to talk to anyone with any clue about what is going on just contact billing.

Level of upset :: 4

Business in question :: ipowerweb

Complaint :: I was unfortunate enough to have a 2-year contract with this company from 2004 -2006.
But its over, finally. Nobody needs a constant source of aggrivation in their life, especially a source they are paying for.
ipowerweb does not reply to even numerous requests on their support web site. They will also change the service without notifing customers, regardless if it breaks your web application. And get used to your email being unavailable as they screw around with their server to the point of the web mail requiring THEIR admin password to access YOUR account.
This is a poorly run business that is best avoided.

You are now chatting with ‘Mark R’
Mark R: Thank you for contacting iPower Live Chat. How can I help you?
Mark R: Hi Stephen
Stephen Wallace, Esq.: Hello. Mark. At the request of my client, and boss, I am contacting you to confirm the level of support, please.
Mark R: Yes
Mark R: What information you want from us Stephen Wallace, Esq.: My client is US Pals, Inc. – a non-profit that helps children. The Director is Patrick Jordan. He has recently communicated with you, and is here with me now, Mark.
Mark R: Please elaborate your issue so that I can help you in a better way.
Stephen Wallace, Esq.: Firstly, for the record, I am licensed in New York, with offices at 39 Bowery, 10002.
Stephen Wallace, Esq.: I have just spent 30 minutes with a very frustrated Mr. Jordan and have reviewed all chat sessions he has had with you, and others, as well as several recorded telephone conversations.
Stephen Wallace, Esq.: 1. Mr. Jordan purchased iPage from iPower and has a receipt. He set up the user name: CaringPals and a password. When he was unable to login using those, he contacted Tech Support (you). 2. You told him to contact SALES. He did so. 3. Sales told him that Tech Support would have to issue a “SET UP LETTER.”
Stephen Wallace, Esq.: 4. Mr. Jordan called Tech Support, and was told he would receive the necessary emailed “Set Up Letter” within 5 minutes. When he did not. He called back. He was then told that the SET UP LETTER could not be sent unless they had his user name.
Stephen Wallace, Esq.: 5. Of course, he provided his user name. (The recording evinces this). But then he was told that the only way to send out the SET UP letter was to CANCEL the account, and re-purchase. An agent named MARK said he would do this with Mr. Jordan on the line, but then put Mr. Jordan on a hold that I timed at 32 minutes!
Mark R: To cancel and repurchase your account. We suggest you to please do contact to our billing department directly.
Mark R: You can contact our billing department via email or phone.
Mark R: Toll free : 1-888-511-4678 option 4 Mark R: Outside USA : 1-310-314-1608            option 4 Mark R: E-mail : billing@ipowerweb.com Mark R: They will do            it for you.
Stephen Wallace, Esq.: 6. I am therefore hereby making a legal demand that YOU issue the set up letter at this time. Your refusal to do so is actionable under New York State law. Are you willing to provide the service purchased by my clients. Be aware that your Mark R: We do apologize for the inconvenience. The technical support department does not have direct access to any customer records or financial information of any kind.
Mark R: We do apologize for the inconvenience. The technical support department does not have direct access to any customer records or financial information of any kind.
Mark R: We suggest you to please do contact to our billing department directly Mark R: They will assist you.
Stephen Wallace, Esq.: failure to agree to resolve this issue at this time may constitute a tort.
Stephen Wallace, Esq.: ARE YOU UNWILLING SIMPLY TO RE-ISSUE THE SET UP LETTER (email)?
Mark R: We are level one tech on live chat your issue cannot be resolved Mark R: Please contact to our billing department Mark R: They will assist you and send you the details as per your requirement Stephen Wallace, Esq.: And to be clear, you have no objection to this chat session being made public?
Mark R: You can contact our billing department via email or phone.
Mark R: Toll free : 1-888-511-4678 option 4 Mark R: Outside USA : 1-310-314-1608 option 4 Mark R: E-mail : billing@ipowerweb.com Stephen Wallace, Esq.: Are you telling me that you have NO MEANS to communicate with other departments within your company?
Mark R: As we are on live chat and we are restricted Stephen Wallace, Esq.: So, do you know what a SET UP LETTER is. Yes or No, Please?
Mark R: Yes we have checked the records and found that there is no record of your account user caringpals Stephen Wallace, Esq.: So, you are now claiming – despite a previous agent confirming the sale – and the email receipt, and the charge on the credit card, that you cannot find an iPage account using the email caringpals@uspals.info?
Stephen Wallace, Esq.: Or are you in fact merely conspiring to harm?
Stephen Wallace, Esq.: I have before me: 1. Credit Card Receipt for the sale; 2. A recording of a conversation wherein iPower confirms the sale, and says TECH SUPPORT merely needs to email the set up letter to Mr. Jordan; and 3. The confirmation email from iPower. Do you still maintain that there is no such account?
Mark R: Yes we have checked and there is no such account Mark R: We do apologize for the inconvenience. The technical support department does not have direct access to any customer records or financial information of any kind.
Stephen Wallace, Esq.: So it is your position that if your SALES team instructed Mr. Jordan to contact TECH SUPPORT in order to access his purchased account, they were incorrect?

Lea F.:Hi, my name is Lea F.. How may I help you?
You: Hello. I am here with my client, after having reviewed prior chat sessions and recordings of calls to your office. My name is Stephen Wallace, and I am an attorney. I need to know the name and phone contact for your counsel. My client is Patrick Jordan, a customer of yours.
Lea F.: email them at legal@ipower.com
You: I will need a telephone number, and attorney’s name so as to ensure I will be in contact with a licensed counsel, please.
Lea F.: sorry no phone number
You: Your refusal to provide this information will be tantamount to an admission of guilt regarding any potential claims filed against you. And may not sit well with the BBB.
Lea F.: i dont have any phone number, the best way to get it is email the legal@ipower.com Lea F.: they will reply to your email
You: Who are you referring to as they. It is a crime to portray that you or someone with you is licensed to practice law if in fact you or they are not. Any reputable attorney has a phone number and a name. My name is Stephen Wallace, I am licensed in New York, and my phone number is at the offices of US Pals, Incorporated – an NPO that provides assistance to poor children in America.
Lea F.: For Legal Inquiries:

Christopher Gonzalez
General Counsel
111 E. Broadway, #210
Glendale, CA 91207
Lea F.: thats all that i have
***** URL Received: http://www.ipower.com/about_us_contact.html
Lea F.: i pushed a link so you can see all the contact information
You: For the sake of preserving the record, my client purchased service from you (and has a receipt). He was unable to access the service for iPower’s failure to set it up as promised. Your customer service refused to assist him, disconnecting calls, and giving him the run around. Your actions and inactions have caused harm. And you admit this.
You: What is your response?
Lea F.: He just purchased the Ipage plan yesterday right?
Lea F.: i told him it is not set up yet, normally he will get the set up letter in 24-26hours Lea F.: it will send to him automatically
You: Yes. And, as you know, he was unable to access his account, and staff of iPower falsely promised to help, only ultimately disconnecting, or failing to render any assistance. He was made to hold for more than 30 (recorded) minutes, and he was continually passed from Sales to Tech to Sales. I have reviewed the sessions, and the behavior of your employees is outrageous at best. What have you to say?
Lea F.: if he wants to get it today, he can contact our tech support
You: Your staff – obviously playing games (as anyone whom reviews the sessions and calls will conclude) has by their actions and inactions damaged a charity organization that feeds and clothes poor children.
You: You are aware that he has spoken with Tech Support thrice. Only to be told that: 1. “There is nothing we can do until you receive the ’set up letter.’ 2. “Sales must take care of this.” and 3. “You must cancel and re-order.”
You: Certainly you also agree that this chat may be made public?
Lea F.: ok this is what you can do right now, call 1-888-511-4678 ext 5300 that is our main operator, ask to transfer you to legal counsel
You: OK. Just to be clear: Rather than assist US PALS, Inc. and activate their account, you are opting to have legal deal with it. And you have no problem with your decision being made public? TRUE?
You: Please be advised that your failure to object at this time to this and all communications between US Pals, Inc staff and iPower Staff being made public by any media constitutes your permission.
You: Thank you for your permission.

I signed up for hosting with this company. It took forever to setup the site, and the tech support team seams to have their head up their ass.

I cancelled the hosting account the very next day, but they still charged my credit card the $95 for the year. Most companies would just cancel the charge from going through your account, ipowerweb basically stole the funds or borrowed them…??? WTF!!

I called the company up after getting the following email….

Dear customer,
Luisa
iPowerWeb
On July 12th I spoke to Luisa who stated that the refund would in my account by Thursday, July 15th, 2004.

Today is July 19th and still no refund. I have filed a dispute with my bank and I am going to post this info on as many forums a rant & rave sites as I can to let as many people know what happen here so they don’t ripped off as well.

I will also be filing a complait with the Better Business Bureau..

I would not suggest www.ipowerweb.com to my worst enemy. I guess you really do get what you pay for.

Business in question :: Ipowerweb aka ipower

Complaint :: I have been with ipowerweb for about 4 years on their shared hosting service. The shared hosting has been good. Aside from some spammer getting the ip address for our email server put in some spam database, it hasn’t given me a moments trouble.

Now, my main website has begun to outgrow the shared hosting account, and my need to control the server more has increased. So, I thought I would try the virtual private server product offered by ipowerweb.

First, it took twice as long to set it up. Then they overcharged me (the setup fee was supposed to be waived). Finally, the vps won’t allow me to add a new domain name. It keeps telling me the “service is unavailable”. Their tech support hasn’t been helpful at all. First they transferred me to billing, then to the reseller group (I had a reseller account on my shared hosting), then finally, I was transferred back to technical support. After arguing with the rep for 20 minutes, I finally convinced him that it was his department that needed to take the trouble ticket.

That was Monday. Today (tuesday), I called back to get the status. THE SAME idiot answered the phone, and told me there was no status, as the ticket hadn’t been touched. After ALOT of “tough talk”, I finally got a “supervisor” in “tier 2″. He said he would try to get ahold of someone to get this fixed, but if he couldn’t he would still call me back. I got off the phone with him at 7 PM. It is now 11 PM, and I haven’t heard from him.

STEER CLEAR FROM IPOWERWEB.

Level of upset :: 4

Business in question :: ipowerweb.com

Complaint :: Ipowerweb used to be a decent host. Over the past year they have gone way downhill.

I actually had an affiliate account with them and referred 7 of my customers to them. I had to atually call them and tell them when I had referrals even though their system was supposed to track it. Then I had to call them to remind them that it was time to send the affiliate checks. At least I was able to get through to non-accented English speaking staff at the time.

Over the past several months one of my clients site has gone down for hours at a time with the only explaination from support being “it’s been resolved.”

Now, I’m having a problem with the control panel not letting me reset my FrontPage extensions which have magically become corrupted even though I haven’t made any changes to the site in weeks. I’ve been emailing and calling and live chatting with support for 3 days now and they still have not fixed the problem.

I have held for over 45 minutes before hanging up without any answer from support, if I’m lucky enough to get through within 20 minutes then I get a heavily accented tech support lady who sounds like she’s reading off of a notecard. After explaining that the control panel is locking up she says she can’t help because she’s only a level one tech. DUH. It gets elevated to level 2 and I wait. They email back the next day saying they have to delete my entire public_html folder and reinstall the extensions. So, I back up my files and wait and wait and wait. I’ve emailed several times, and live chatted and the only thing they can say is that it is being elevated.

So, I call sales who answer the phone with perfect English in about 1 minute and explain my situation to someone and he says he’ll help — then he puts me right back into the phone support hold line!

I have 3 conferences with live registration forms that are not working because they won’t fix my problem. I am losing money and if they don’t fix it tomorrow, I’ll have to move to another site just to get this thing working like it should.

DO not sign up with Ipowerweb. In addition to the horrible support, they also have major spammers on their servers. My clients can not even use their outgoing mail servers since their email gets blocked all of the time. This is a major problem for customer who travel because they always have to know the outgoing mail server for their location.

RUN RUN RUN!

Business in question :: AOL

Complaint :: Tried canceling my account on December 31, 2005. The idot rep said all of my security responses did not match. In truth, he didn’t know what he was doing. when I asked to speak to his supervisor he told me he was the account exec so I asked to speak to his manager. He said they did not take calls. How is that for customer service? When the $23.90 showed up again, I called my credit card company. The customer service rep I got said she had 8 to 10 calls a week with complaints against AOL. I disputed the claim and AOL threatened to send me to collections AND the fax number to their billing office in Florida was bogus. After many calls, I finally got someone that spoke english and he said he would have me removed from the collections list. We’ll see. NEVER NEVER NEVER again will I used these crooks.

Complaint :: AOL shut off my service because of something my husband said and when i called they would not do anything so i asked if i am not allowed access then they why are they still taking money out of my account for it. he response was he had to talk to my husband . i told him that my husband is at work and it should not matter it is my money that pays for this service.

Level of upset :: 4

Business in question :: TIME WARNER/AOL

Complaint :: Sometime around 1993 I subscribed to AOL for my sons. I never used the service so my sons had created the passwords and screen names. With my youngest son going off to College I decided to cancel Aol. They asked for the screen name and password for the account. I had no clue as I never used the service and it had been so long ago that the account was first activated. I was then asked for the last 4 digits of my credit card. Well…I had it billed on my American Express card (again back in 1993) and my current card number didn’t match up with the original AE number. Of course it didn’t, I once had my purse stolen, (new card issued) and over the 10 years probably lost it 2 or 3 times each time having a new card issued with different numbers. Now they asked me the security question, what is my pet’s name? Well, should be an easy one right? Not really because I have 4 dogs, 2 cats today and I couldn’t remember which ones were with me back in 1993!!!! I had 2 chances to answer and failed both times. (Keep in mind, we also had older dogs who have passed so who the heck knows which name was used!) At this point they said sorry, I couldn’t cancel the service. I then offered to go to a notary to obtain documentation stating that I am in fact the member and even offered to fax my current American Express Statement to them showing the current charges. I was told that also would not work. I contacted American Express via mail and phone, told them these were fraudalent charges and to have them stopped. I was told they could not do that because of the type of authorization that had been approved back in 1993!!!!!!!!! So, I figure…ok I’ll outsmart AOL. I cancelled my AE card. Guess what? I still get a bill every month from a cancelled AE card account. I again disputed the charges and it was sent to collections! This is the most bizarre set of circumstances ever. I warn everyone not to sign up for AOL.

As of now, I filed a complaint with my local state attorney general’s office & have sent the President of AOL an overnight letter asking for his help. Kinda doubt I will get any response from him.

I hope there is some attorney out there watching these messages boards. I don’t practice law but by perusing the internet I think there is great cause for a major class action suit against AOL.

I am also toying with the idea of advertising in USA looking for everyone who can’t cancel their service to contact me. I don’t think my post office would have a box large enough for the response. I’d love to take those letters to an attorney.

Oh and finally, I forgot to mention that I was on the phone 3 Hours (I am not exxagerating)asking for supervisors and being put on hold and having AOL’s “retention experts” call me “honey” and to settle down. (I was firm but never lost my cool. They were flipping on me because I kept asking for another supervisor!)

Thanks for the opportunity to alert others of the AOL cancel problem.

Business in question :: AOL

Complaint :: Okay. So I wanted to cancel AOL because I was moving and would no longer have set up for internet. So I called, expecting a nice customer service representative to be like, “Oh, we’re sorry to lose you, remember us in the future.” No. I requested they cancel the service and the guy said, “Okay, so we’ll set you up with a free month.” No, I want to cancel. “Okay, so we’ll set you up with a free month.” This went on and on and he put me on hold and the only way I extracted a cancellation number was by yelling at the guy, which I never would do. He was a jerk.
Then… my mother in law accidently put one of those awful “1,000 hours free!” disks in her computer, but did nothing with it. So, she eventually got a bill for three or four subscriptions! She hadn’t even used one! When she called them to say there had been a mistake, she only had one computer, wny would she need multiple subscriptions, they called her a liar and kept withdrawing the money from her account. The bank, who was sympathetic because this had apparently happened before, told her the only way to get them from stopping charging was to close her account!

Complaint :: Called AOL to cancel because I went to bellsouth DSL. In an e-mail on December 19th I informed them to discontinue service a week later. I was not comfortable with a no-response to my mail, so I called only to be told “for being a customer we will extend you one free month” I week later I get a letter in the mail reminding me that I had been given a free month and they will renew me on January 27th and draft my account $23.90 for the monthly fee. I ask them why in hell would I pay that when I already pay for DSL. I coul not beleive they acted as if I had not requested cancellation. This company is a thief!

Business in question :: AOL

Complaint :: On May 31st 2005 i called to cancel my acct with AOL. I got the same sale tactic as everyone, why are you cancelling. WELL AM CANCELLING BECAUSE I DONT WANT THE SERVICE. The Rep tells me that she will cancel the acct & give me a free month. So, i forgot about, never used it again. All of the sudden my june bank statement (which arrived on august 1st) comes up the 23.90 for the AOL Service. I called the same fighting this, some jerk off tells me that the cancellation never took place & that they gave me the free month to keep as a cust. I told again i wanted the acct cancelled all together & wanted my money back. Then he asks me for the confirmation #, i didnt have it, tells me sorry nothing i can do without the confirmation #. How could they not have anything on file or notes i asked, got nothing.

So now i got my bank statement showing a 23.90 charge from AOL again. I called give my confirmation # & now they tell me that they billed from July 28 unti august 1st 23.90 for a service that i dont use & requested to be cancelled. Am so pissed that these jerk offs keep giving me the run around. NOBODY in that damm company is able to give you a straigth answer. NEVER! Now am out 47.80 & scared that am going to have to call the company every month to cancel an acct i have not used since may. CROOKS!

Complaint :: THESE IDIOTS PLACED AN OBJECT NOT A PERSON AS OUR PRIMARY ACCOUNT HOLDER. THEY TURNED OFF OUR SERVICES FOR MAKING A COMMENT THAT SOMEONE DIDN’T LIKE IN A CHAT ROOM ABOUT THE WAR. THEY WON’T TURN OUR SERVICES (WHICH IS PAID) FOR A WEEK.
Complaint :: I have called 5 times since Jan 05 to cancel and here it is in august and they are still deducting a monthly fee from my account. when I call they give me the run around and just now they hung up on me I am out 191.00 for a service i have not used and that cancellation # and letter don’t mean nothing. the reps are rude and condesecending and I tell everyone don’t ever use AOL!!!

Business in question :: AOL

Complaint :: I purchased a new laptop in December which came with 6 months free AOL, I never liked AOL, although my daughter did, so decided to try it again. I still did not like it, I can not even access my work email because of their blocking policy.

So, in June we called and cancelled them. Three months later they hit me $71.70 in charges for three months of service that I haven’t even had. We had even uninstalled AOL on the computer because we had cancelled their services. I call them up and get the usual BS described in other letters, and am told they will give me two months charges back but I have to have their services for the one month charge they will keep.

I feel like I am being blackmailed into using their services, I can’t get any of my money back from them unless I agree to them keeping one month. I am so furious. To top it all off the Visa/debit card I had originally used I had cancelled in May (it was lost) and they somehow forced the charges to my bank account anyway. Now I am $135 overdrawn from their $71.70 and subsequent overdraft fees because I didn’t have the $71.70 extra to cover it.

Business in question :: AOL

Complaint :: I’ve never used AOL and never requested to use them, yet last month my credit card was charged $23.90. My credit card company reversed the charge, but somehow AOL found me and sent a letter stating I needed to pay them $23.90 or it would be sent to a collection agency for recovery.

I called AOL, and this is what happened:

Call #1: Lady would not reveal her name, and asked me what my favorite restaurant was. When I told her I didn’t understand the relevance of the question, she stated she could not continue unless I answered her. I hung up.

Calls #2, 3 & 4: Asked for the person’s name, and was disconnected all times.

Call #5: Instead of talking with “collections,” I asked to be transferred to “disputes,” and I was diconnected.

Call #6: Got the person’s name, and told her I was going to record this conversation for my purposes (since AOL records its messages, and also because she made a point of saying she would record this one) and she said she would now have to terminate this call, as AOL does not allow their conversations to be recorded. I wonder why?

Not sure how this will all turn out, because AOL still has 15 days to respond to my credeit card dispute. However, not taking any chances, I closed my bank accounts and cancelled the affected credit cards.

Business in question :: AOL

Complaint :: I had been an AOL cystomer for 4 years. In june of 2004 I moved to a rural area in northern minnesota. Aol did not have a dial up access number in this area so I called them to cancel. They told me at that time that I did not have to cancel and that they would let me use a 1-800 number to sign on for no extra cost. This happened for 20 months with no problem. Then they had a rate increase of 2 dollars a month. They sent a notice explaining this. They did not send a notice explaining that the 1-800 number would no longer be at no charge. I found in may of 2006 that AOL charged me $620.20 for 1 month service. Since AOL bills a month ahead There was a bill of $311 and building still there. I went through billing department hell explaining they made a mistake. They kept telling me that I never got a free 1-800 number and that I only could get 10 hrs free. I told them to look at my history and see that what I was saying was true. I finally had someone with half a brain look and was told it WAS AOL’s fault. They credited my account $590 and told me to let them take the $311 out and call back and have that minus the 25.90 credited back to my account. I received the $590 let them take the $311[ trusting them because they just credited me]. I called to get the next credit and was told that no more credits would be given to me. Even the rep that told me it was AOL’s fault was stunned. I am out $287 and there is pretty much nothing I can do. I live on SSDI and struggle to have much of a life. AOL has left a very sour taste for me. I would never reccommend anyone using there service!
