AOL Time Warner complaints 1
AOL is a ISP or internet provider, this company blocks part of the internet and fools their customers to think that AOL controls the internet. They block other isp’s and several hosting companies without informing their customers of what they do.

Complaint :: On May 31st 2005 i called to cancel my acct with AOL. I got the same sale tactic as everyone, why are you cancelling. WELL AM CANCELLING BECAUSE I DONT WANT THE SERVICE. The Rep tells me that she will cancel the acct & give me a free month. So, i forgot about, never used it again. All of the sudden my june bank statement (which arrived on august 1st) comes up the 23.90 for the AOL Service. I called the same fighting this, some jerk off tells me that the cancellation never took place & that they gave me the free month to keep as a cust. I told again i wanted the acct cancelled all together & wanted my money back. Then he asks me for the confirmation #, i didnt have it, tells me sorry nothing i can do without the confirmation #. How could they not have anything on file or notes i asked, got nothing.
So now i got my bank statement showing a 23.90 charge from AOL again. I called give my confirmation # & now they tell me that they billed from July 28 unti august 1st 23.90 for a service that i dont use & requested to be cancelled. Am so pissed that these jerk offs keep giving me the run around. NOBODY in that damm company is able to give you a straigth answer. NEVER! Now am out 47.80 & scared that am going to have to call the company every month to cancel an acct i have not used since may. CROOKS!

Complaint :: I purchased a new laptop in December which came with 6 months free AOL, I never liked AOL, although my daughter did, so decided to try it again. I still did not like it, I can not even access my work email because of their blocking policy.
So, in June we called and cancelled them. Three months later they hit me $71.70 in charges for three months of service that I haven’t even had. We had even uninstalled AOL on the computer because we had cancelled their services. I call them up and get the usual BS described in other letters, and am told they will give me two months charges back but I have to have their services for the one month charge they will keep.
I feel like I am being blackmailed into using their services, I can’t get any of my money back from them unless I agree to them keeping one month. I am so furious. To top it all off the Visa/debit card I had originally used I had cancelled in May (it was lost) and they somehow forced the charges to my bank account anyway. Now I am $135 overdrawn from their $71.70 and subsequent overdraft fees because I didn’t have the $71.70 extra to cover it.

Complaint :: I’ve never used AOL and never requested to use them, yet last month my credit card was charged $23.90. My credit card company reversed the charge, but somehow AOL found me and sent a letter stating I needed to pay them $23.90 or it would be sent to a collection agency for recovery.
I called AOL, and this is what happened:
Call #1: Lady would not reveal her name, and asked me what my favorite restaurant was. When I told her I didn’t understand the relevance of the question, she stated she could not continue unless I answered her. I hung up.
Calls #2, 3 & 4: Asked for the person’s name, and was disconnected all times.
Call #5: Instead of talking with “collections,” I asked to be transferred to “disputes,” and I was diconnected.
Call #6: Got the person’s name, and told her I was going to record this conversation for my purposes (since AOL records its messages, and also because she made a point of saying she would record this one) and she said she would now have to terminate this call, as AOL does not allow their conversations to be recorded. I wonder why?
Not sure how this will all turn out, because AOL still has 15 days to respond to my credeit card dispute. However, not taking any chances, I closed my bank accounts and cancelled the affected credit cards.

Complaint :: I had been an AOL cystomer for 4 years. In june of 2004 I moved to a rural area in northern minnesota. Aol did not have a dial up access number in this area so I called them to cancel. They told me at that time that I did not have to cancel and that they would let me use a 1-800 number to sign on for no extra cost. This happened for 20 months with no problem. Then they had a rate increase of 2 dollars a month. They sent a notice explaining this. They did not send a notice explaining that the 1-800 number would no longer be at no charge. I found in may of 2006 that AOL charged me $620.20 for 1 month service. Since AOL bills a month ahead There was a bill of $311 and building still there. I went through billing department hell explaining they made a mistake. They kept telling me that I never got a free 1-800 number and that I only could get 10 hrs free. I told them to look at my history and see that what I was saying was true. I finally had someone with half a brain look and was told it WAS AOL’s fault. They credited my account $590 and told me to let them take the $311 out and call back and have that minus the 25.90 credited back to my account. I received the $590 let them take the $311[ trusting them because they just credited me]. I called to get the next credit and was told that no more credits would be given to me. Even the rep that told me it was AOL’s fault was stunned. I am out $287 and there is pretty much nothing I can do. I live on SSDI and struggle to have much of a life. AOL has left a very sour taste for me. I would never reccommend anyone using there service!
